Electrospun structures
Electrospun materials have a wide range of applications across various fields due to the versatility in the geometries that they can be fabricated. The geometries of the electrospun material is directly attributable to the shape of the collector used during the spinning process. The collector functions as a template for the production of fiber mats resulting in the formation of flat sheets, tubes, and complex 3-dimensional coatings onto existing devices.
Sheets
- Samples can be prepared from a versatile polymer library
- Tunable mat dimensions up to 44 cm wide and thicknesses from 10 µm – 1 mm
- Facilitates continuous preparation of sheets in a rolled format for high through put sample production, preparing meters of materials.
- Controlled orientations of deposited fibers, from random fibers for wound dressings and filtration applications, or aligned fibers for providing directional strength and scaffolds for directional cell growth.
- Preparation of multi material mats to form composite fibers with blended polymers or the incorporation of additives to enhance mechanical, electrical, or biological properties
Tubes
- Fabricate tubes of polymeric fibers, fiber -nanoparticle composites with predefined diameters and wall thickness.
- Tubes consisting of multiple layers with each layer fabricated with a different polymer.
- Tailor mechanical properties to maintain structural integrity.
- Tunable inner diameters from 250 µm – 5 mm for a wide range of biomedical applications including vascular grafts, drug delivery systems, and tissue engineering.
Coatings
- Fibers mats can be directly deposited as coatings onto medical devices, eg. nitinol stents
- Uniform and continuous coatings of complex geometries
- Enhance existing devices by coating with electrospun materials
- Versatile polymer library and compatibility with green solvents
- Template onto complex device structures including electrodes and battery separators
